Glad to have you back! I’m bracing for this election. My nerves are already shot after all the years of Trump trauma, but it’s not like there’s a way to escape. Women’s lives as humans (rather than livestock) depend on this election.

Are polls dependable? I keep asking myself and other people this. Do people really answer unknown numbers? I don’t, but I guess maybe other people do? Or are the only people being polled lonely white retirees who are at home during the day and love the opportunity to share their opinion? Thoughts, anyone?

Thank you so much! It's good to be back too! It's definitely fair to be nervous in the run-up to November as, I know it's a cliche, but GOP majorities have shown their true colours since 2020 so this truly is one of the most important and consequential elections of our lives.

I think polls are dependable to an extent, but not this far out. The polls for the Iowa caucus for instance were pretty solid, but midterm polling missed due to pollsters wanting it to be a GOP friendly environment, and over-adjusting their polls as a result. Right now, we're seeing a lot of voters saying they'll back Trump who haven't heard a single piece of his rhetoric since 2020, and before any of his trials have happened. They singularly blame Biden for the country's woes while not crediting him for any wins which is why I think he is trailing now but it's very much a mirage.

General rule of thumb is to only start playing close attention to the polls after Labor Day, as that's when Summer begins to wind down and people tune in closely to politics. It's still anyone's race to win, and polls should be taken as a guide to the country's mood but they can't predict much this far out.
